Comprehensive Out of School Time
(OST) Program
|
Partners provides a year-round, comprehensive Out of School Time (OST) program for
80 students, kindergarten through middle school, who are at high risk for school failure
and who lack traditional afterschool enrichment opportunities. We provide a safe haven for
the children, and promote academic success via classroom work, tutoring help and mentoring
programs. Students have opportunities for music, art and team sports, and benefit from the
attention of teachers and volunteers. Bridging the gap between the home, the school and the
community, Partners develops solid working relationships with public school teachers and
administrators, and we encourage parental involvement in their children's education.

Freedom Schools
|
The Children's Defense Fund of Washington, DC selected Partners to host a
CDF summer Freedom School beginning in the summer of 2004. Freedom Schools is a
literacy-rich program integrating reading, conflict resolution and social action
in an activity-based curriculum that promotes social, cultural, and historical
awareness. The Partners board and staff believe that Freedom Schools is an excellent
complement to our afterschool program. We are excited about our affiliation with the
Children's Defense Fund and look forward to growing with the nationwide Freedom Schools

Parent Programs
|

Knowing that children perform better in school when their parents are involved, Partners
works to help parents in their role as primary educators of their children. Through parent
workshops and one-on-one mentoring, our staff enables parents to be successfully engaged in
their children's education. Partners works with other community organizations in meeting
parents' needs for their own personal growth in education, job training, and parenting skills.
