Successful Outcomes
An August 2003 evaluation by UNC-Charlotte's Jeff Passe, Ph.D., validated the Partners' OST program. Through observations, interviews and report-card reviews, Dr. Passe determined that the program is extremely successful in improving participants' school achievement, attendance and attitudes. He noted improvements in all three areas, citing trends that were overwhelmingly positive. Passe attributed improved grades, in part, to time devoted to homework during OST, as well as emphasis on school attendance.

Real Relationships
Other measures of our success are the nurturing relationships our volunteers form with our students. We continue to attract volunteers from diverse backgrounds. We even have one entire family working with Partners! In the words of a young volunteer in the summer camp program, "I have formed real relationships . . . something that I can take with me wherever I go. I have the stories of these children, the stories of their love and great humanity. . . One of the most beautiful and laudable things about Partners is that it nurtures the environment where such exchanges and moments of grace are possible . . . ."

Community Commitment
Another measure of our success is the commitment we engender from the community. We continue to benefit from contributors who are impressed with the program's achievements. For example, The Harris Foundation, Barnhardt Manufacturing Company, and Davidson College contributed computer workstations and funding for the Computer Lab in the library of the Hope Building for use by students and parents. Sullivan, Burd and Roupas, DDS, contribute dental care to our students. Each dentist sees one of our students a month. Joanne Hock of Emulsion Arts, one of Charlotte's finest commercial film directors, created a film depicting the mission of Partners. The Board of Directors bestowed on her the "Outstanding Partner" award to recognize her unique contribution.
